My Favorite Spareribs

This recipe has been in my family for many years and was given to my sister in-law by an old southern lady who was known for her good down home cooking! Try it - I know you will like it!

When purchasing your ribs, make sure that you get the "country type" ribs, with a lot of meat on them (not the babyback or regular, flimsy kind). Purchase whatever amount you require. Separate them and place them in a large stew pot with 1 or 2 bay leaves and 1 or 2 large Vidalia onions, sliced. Cover with water and bring to a boil. Simmer for about 1/2 hour.
Drain the water off, remove the bay leaves and spread the ribs out in a roasting pan. Cover them with the onions.
Pour a bottle of Open Pit BQ sauce over all (more if making a lot)and cover with foil and allow to marinate for at least 1 hour.
Place covered pan of ribs in a 350 degree oven and bake for about 40-45 minutes. Remove foil and allow to bake an additional 10-15 minutes, depending on amount of ribs and sauce.

If this sounds super easy, it is, but try very hard to find the "Open Pit" brand of BBQ sauce. I've tried other brands, but this one is definitely the best. These ribs go very nicely with potato salad and sweet corn, and make a delicious backyard picnic or BBQ for the 4th of July!

And here is a little secret for grilling delicious chicken parts - boil them for about 15 minutes in water before placing on the grill.

Hi there, Are you the one who suggest the name Nony for the poor little kitty Malcolm rescued? That is the perfect name.
I had to leave a post, couldn't figure out how to email you (or Malcolm, for that matter).
Love your cat, gorgeous, love your recipes. I've bookmarked to check these out, they seem very much like what I grew up with.
Here's my Missy Blue Eyes' site:

So glad I found you, think you have the PERFECT name for that wee kitten.

Hi Grammie! Mommy says that your spareribs are the best. I like to lick the bones clean. And if I'm extra good, Mommy leaves lots of meat on the bone for me too! Maybe I'll talk Mommy into making these for 4th of July!

Hi Grammie!
I will keep my eyes peeled for Open Pit. Puff's dad can't have ribs, but he loves barbecue sauce on his skinless chicken breasts, haha!

Thanks for the yummy recipes!
